Fertilization and irrigation methodologies and protocols to optimize the quality and performance in a sustainable way of rotating crops in La Rioja Alta. This area is classified as a vulnearable zone to nitrate pollution, so it is necessary to develop protocols for the sustainable use of nitrogen fertilizers.

OBJETIVES

The main objective is the development of new fertilization and irrigation methodologies and protocols to optimize the quality and performance in a sustainable way of rotating pea, sugar beet, potato, green bean and cereal crops in La Rioja Alta. This area is classified as a vulnearable zone to nitrate pollution, so it is necessary to develop protocols for the sustainable use of nitrogen fertilizers.

APPLIED TECHNOLOGIES

The reduction in costs and accessibility of precision agricultural tools such as drones or agro-climatic stations, together with the development of nutritional balance models such as EU-ROTATE_N can contribute to the development of new protocols that optimize the use of nitrogen fertilizers without compromising or even improving quality.

This could result in significant cost savings for the farmer as well as higher quality of the final product and therefore an increase in the margin and sales price.

RESSOURCES

The main growers' associations in the area, GARU and AIMCRA consider the development of these protocols to be strategic and have therefore set up this operational group together with the University of La Rioja, Drónica Solutions and Encore Lab. This action has been co-financed by the Ministry of Agriculture, the Government of La Rioja and Feader (European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development).

During the initial phase of the creation of the Operational Group, the partners will define in detail the partial objectives to be achieved, the scope of the project and the work plan to be developed in the future Innovation project.
